The Outer Shell of SNR 0540-69.3
Abstract
The supernova remnant 0540-69.3 in the Large Magellanic Cloud has been observed with the ROSAT HRI detector. The outer shell was resolved from the bright central region and its X-ray morphology and luminosity determined. One-quarter of the soft X-rays originate in this shell. This result and a simple blastwave model imply that the energy release in the supernova was about 2 x 10^51^ ergs.
